Sowore slams Defence Minister over 2027 election assurance

Omoyele Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Defence Minister Christopher Musa over his promise that security agencies will remain neutral during the 2027 general elections.

Sowore accused the minister of supporting President Bola Tinubu and questioned his ability to ensure that security agencies remain impartial during the polls.

In a post on X, the activist described Musa as a “loudmouth” and accused him of failing to address insecurity during his time as a military chief. He urged the minister to focus on tackling insecurity instead of making promises about the 2027 elections.

The criticism followed Musa’s remarks after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

The minister, who was accompanied by heads of security agencies, said the meeting was held to brief the President on the country’s security situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Musa assured Nigerians that security agencies would act professionally and ensure that voters were not intimidated during the elections.

He also said Tinubu wanted the 2027 elections to be free, fair and credible.

However, Sowore questioned the minister’s assurance, alleging that Musa was politically aligned with the President.

“This retired loudmouth, Christopher Musa, who failed in his duties as a serving General in the Nigerian Army is now here promising free and fair elections in 2027, when he is, in fact, a partisan hack for Tinubu. He should leave 2027 alone and face insecurity,” Sowore wrote.

The 2027 general elections are expected to be an important test for Nigeria’s electoral process, with the conduct of security agencies likely to remain a major issue in discussions about credible polls.

Musa’s assurance comes amid growing calls for security agencies to protect voters, maintain order and perform their duties without political interference during the elections.
