2027: Sen. Tambuwal debunks claims of plans to dump ADC for APC

By Ankeli Emmanuel, Sokoto

The Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District and former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has denied ongoing social media claims of his purported plans to dump the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tambuwal, who said his relationship with Nigerians as a statesman across party lines should not be wrongly interpreted as possible plans to ditch the ADC, said any suggestion of such plans is false, baseless and should be disregarded.

A statement by Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel said his principal’s relationship with people of diverse ethnic and political class is a reflection of years of excellent public service and mutual respect.

The statement read in part, “The AWT Media Office categorically rejects claims circulating on social media that Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded.

“Senator Tambuwal is a respected statesman and one of the few politicians in Nigeria with a wide network of friendships and longstanding relationships across party lines. These relationships reflect years of public service and mutual respect. They should not be misrepresented as evidence of a change in his political allegiance”.

Clarifying the situation further, Prince Daniel said, “The photographs and video clips being circulated do not establish any defection plan. Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance.

“Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC. His focus is on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

Daniel also noted that such is not even thinkable especially at a time when Nigerians are demanding answers to pressing economic, security and governance challenges, adding that public discussion deserves substance and truth.

“Unfounded speculation must not distract from the urgent task of offering Nigerians credible leadership and a better future.

“We urge supporters and the public to remain focused on the work ahead. Senator Tambuwal’s commitment to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians remains unwavering”.

The statement further advised that, “Media organisations and social media commentators should verify claims with the AWT Media Office before publishing them. Speculation must never be presented as fact”.
