Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has told President Bola Tinubu that improved foreign reserves cannot solve the hunger facing Nigerians.
Makinde spoke on Saturday during the official launch of the Makinde and Daura for Better Nigeria (MAD) Resetter Movement in Lagos.
The governor said the Federal Government’s claims of improved foreign reserves would mean little to citizens who are struggling with hunger and poverty.
“Reserves figures cannot feed hungry Nigerians,” Makinde said.
He noted that the current economic situation showed that many Nigerians were yet to feel the impact of the government’s economic reforms.
Makinde urged Tinubu to focus on policies that directly improve the living conditions of citizens rather than relying on economic figures to measure progress.
According to the governor, the rising cost of living has made it difficult for many families to afford basic food items.
He also called on the Tinubu administration to prioritise food security and job creation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde’s comments come amid ongoing public concerns about the cost of living and the impact of the Federal Government’s economic policies on households across the country.
