Insurgency will afford us opportunity to re-engineer our communities — Gov. Shettima

ABDULLAHI ISAH, Maiduguri
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno has said that the Boko Haram insurgency will afford the government the opportunity to re-engineer the destroyed communities.
The governor disclosed this when he received a delegation led by President International Humanitarian Committee Ambassador David Millband at the Government House Maiduguri, Monday.
Shettima said “I have a picture taken in Kukawa many years ago where only the Shehu’s place, a bank and few houses of politicians were built with blocks but others were stalk houses and even now our people are living in stalk houses, so this is an opportunity to re-enginneeer our communities.”
He commended the intentional Humanitarian Committee to taking care of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), adding that when the history of Borno is going be written their name will be written in God.
Speaking earlier, the President International Humanitarian Community, David Milliband, said they are determined to assist the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to live their normal lives and subsequently return to their communities.
Mr Milliband further stated that the international rescue committee is ready to promote the cause of women and children, as they are the most vulnerable in most crises and assured the Governor that the international community is ready to partner with the Borno state Government.
