PDP crisis: Uche Secondus dares erstwhile godfather, Gov. Wike, says ‘I will not resign’

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has said that he will not resign his position.
The embattled Chairman has been under pressure to quit his position, especially since several members of the executive of the party resigned their positions in protest of what they said was his unacceptable leadership style.
Many however believe that the pressure being mounted on Secondus to vacate the chairmanship of the main opposition party are from the Governor Nyesom Wike camp in the party and has to do with the politics of the presidential ticket of 2023.
Secondus was quoted as saying that an unnamed government official has been deploying huge resources of his state into the campaign to oust him, in apparent reference to Wike who is said to have massively bankrolled his (Secondus’) election as Chairman of the party in the belief that the Rivers State-born party chief will be at his beck and call.
At the beginning of his Chairmanship of the PDP, Secondus was, indeed, literally operating as an aide of Wike, following him all around Rivers State to most state functions. But lately, this has no longer been the case as the PDP Chairman has apparently found his feet as well as new friends or godfathers who are believed to be assuring him that they would ensure that he remains Chairman of the party at forthcoming convention so that the presidential candidate of the party can come from the Northern part of the country.
Prince Secondus, in a short statement from his media office, in defiance of the pressures for him to throw in the towel, said that nothing so far warrants his resignation from the party position and that those ‘tiny minority’ calling for his resignation should come clean and tell party members across the country his offense, why he should resign.
He said he will remain focussed and committed to the ideals of the party which he swore to protect and defend upon his election to lead the party 44 months ago.
