The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun Sunday expressed happiness with the decision of the party to make Benue Sate Governor, Samuel Ortom its candidate in last year’s election.
He said Governor Ortom has vindicated the party’s decision by his performance.
Chief Odigie-Oyegun who made the disclosure at a dinner organised in his honour at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, said Ortom was an obvious choice from the list of contestants.
“I am happy that I played a part in making you Governor. It was a question of which Benue citizen had the charisma, the ability and the temperament to lead this state at such a time when things had really gone bad. Ever since we decided that you Samuel Ortom should be given the mandate, I have been a very happy man,” Chief Odigie-Oyegun stated.
He said the development efforts so far made by the Ortom administration were already yielding good results, stressing that the amnesty initiative of Benue State should be emulated by other states of the federation.
He commended Governor Ortom for stabilizing things in the state describing him as having the best of relations with labour unions.
Earlier, Governor Ortom commended the APC National Chairman for ensuring the victory of the party at the federal and state levels.
“What you have done for us is evident. You have led the party to victory nationwide. We sincerely appreciate your leadership. We thank you for supporting us to succeed in this task.”
Governor Ortom expressed the determination of his administration to succeed despite challenges.
He assured Chief Odigie-Oyegun that it was in view of the rot in the system that the State Government set up panels of inquiry to ascertain what actually went wrong with the finances and other resources of the state before the present administration took over.
The Governor said his administration would build on the milestones it had achieved in security, adding that it was already extending the efforts to education, health and other key sectors.
Highpoints of the dinner included the decoration of the APC National Chairman in Benue traditional attires by Governor Samuel Ortom.
