Hoy, when the envoy paid him a courtesy visit in
Government House, Enugu
The Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sean Hoy, has assured Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state of the readiness of his country to show visible commitment to the realization of the aims of the recent economic mission to Ireland by a delegation of the state government led by the governor.
The state’s delegation to Ireland ended the mission last week and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dublin City University on various areas and levels of educational development that would be mutually beneficial to both parties.
The governor equally convened a top class investment summit where he show-cased the economic potentials of Enugu State to the Irish people, asking them to come and invest in a state that is presently ranked the safest in Nigeria.
The Governor told the Ambassador that “we did discuss investment possibilities between Enugu State and Ireland. We were also in Dublin City University where we signed Memorandum of Understanding with them concerning Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).”
The governor who was honoured with a leadership award by the Irish citizens told his visitor that the award has challenged him to do more for the people of Enugu State, adding that Dublin citizens assured Enugu state of their willingness to invest in the state.
He equally stated that the state is working hard to boost its economy, considering the present economic crunch plaguing the nation.
Ambassador Sean who stated that this is his third visit to Enugu State in his one and a half years stay in the country said that Governor Ugwuanyi has won the hearts of Irish citizens, adding that they are working hard to make the governor’s first investment trip fruitful. He equally said that Ireland has great investment interests in Nigeria.
He also said that part of what brought him to Enugu was the death of one of the Irish missionary priests, Fr. Charles Nuel whose remains will be committed to mother earth at Nsukka Thursday, stressing that the Father had served humanity with all dedication and had wished to be buried in Enugu.
