Security: Enugu Govt.donates land to Police


Handing over the proposed site to the Commissioner of Police in charge of Logistics and Supplies (Works), Force Headquarters, Abuja, CP Victor Oniofiok, the Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier Gen. Fred Eze (rtd.) said that the idea of establishing the Mobile Police Squadron was conceived to enhance adequate security in the state.
Brig. Gen. Eze who is also the Chairman of the Technical Committee for the handover of the site disclosed that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi expressly approved the siting of the project in the state when the request was presented to him by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr.Emmanuel Ojukwu. He added that the governor equally offered to extend his hand of fellowship towards the actualization of the project.
In his response, the representative of the Nigeria Police Force, CP Oniofiok expressed appreciation to the state government and people of the area for donating the land for the proposed project, saying that the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, would be in Enugu for the ground-breaking ceremony.
He assured the people that they will hear from the Police Force soon and called on them to continue to cooperate with the security agencies to curb crimes and guarantee peace and speedy development of the state.
Also speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of the host community, Igwe Nathaniel Ezeani told the representative of the Nigeria Police Force that the people of the area unanimously supported the donation of the expanse of land to the Police Force to help improve the security of the state.
Other stakeholders that spoke at the event include the Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, Hon. Cornell Onwubuya, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Patrick Ikpenwa, former state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Vita Abba, Prof. Osita Ogbu and Dan Shere.
