Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has sworn in the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen and conferred on him the National honour of the Grand Commander of Order of the Niger (GCON).
Onnoghen, with the ceremony that took place on Tuesday at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja becomes the 17th CJN.
His inauguration was witnessed by Dr. Bukola Saraki, the President of the Senate, former CJNs; Justices of the Supreme Court and the new CJN’s relations and other guests.
Justice Onnoghen’s journey to the coveted position was controversial especially as the process of his nomination to the Senate for confirmation was unduly delayed.
