Panic on Wednesday hit some residents of Okwutukwutu Community in Bayelsa State following the collapse of a Church building owned by the Deeper Life Christian Bible Church.
This is as Rivers State government last Friday sealed off a three storey building at Alakahia, near University of Port Harcourt when the state Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Mr. Chinyere Igwe visited the scene of a collapsed building to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the incident
Although no lives were lost as the Bayelsa Deeper Life church auditorium complex caved in, there was serious pandemonium among the residents of the area
The ugly incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning along the church street located at Okwutukwutu.

Following the collapse, Community youths, Journalists and other sympathizers who rushed to the site of the incident were denied access by the Administrative Officer of the Church to the collapse site. He refused to make his name public.
He told the Journalists and other sympathizers that the management of the church has taken control of the incident, pending when the state overseer of the church would visit the site.
Hear him:’ we don’t want anybody now both media men and community youths to enter the collapse site until when my state overseer comes to visit the area’
Narrating the incident, some residents of the area who declined making their identities public said they heard a huge noise in the morning and later saw that some pillars of the church building had started collapsing, force some neighbors to scamper for safety.
Another eyewitness who gave his own account of the incident also said, he thanked God that no causality was recorded, but that only the structures caved in
Our correspondent reports that the caus of the collapse could not be ascertained as at the time of this report.
