Gombe civil servants stay away from work to honour former Gov. Hashidu

Civil servants in Gombe, on Monday, obeyed the directive of the State Government to observe a work free day in honour of its first Executive Governor, Habubakar Habu Hashidu who died last Friday in Gombe after a protracted illness at the age of 74.

The Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo had in a statement through the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Mr. James Pisagih, declared Monday 30th July, 2018 as a work free day to honour the fallen hero.
According to the statement, workers were expected to use the period to offer prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul adding that work resumes on Tuesday, 31st July, 2018.
It will be recalled that late Abubakar Habu Hashidu contributed immensely during the struggle for the creation of Gombe State, having served as Executive Secretary for the Movement for the creation of the State.
Our correspondent reports that all civil servants in the State had complied with the directive as all offices visited remained closed. One of the civil servants, Ibrahim Manager who works in Nafada told our Correspondent that the honour was well deserved considering the contributions of the elder state man to the State, especially the peace building efforts he put in, before, during and after his leadership of the State.
