The Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering, NATE, Staff and Management, Ministry of Works, Akwa Ibom State, Staff and Management of Abak Local Government Council, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ikot Ekpene and Ikono Local Government Chapters and the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), were among interest groups that paid glowing tributes to their departed colleague, late Engr. (Mrs) Roseline Sylvanus Ofum, whose remains were laid to rest at Abak Ifia in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State at the weekend.
The deceased, 49, who died on August 7, 2019 after a brief illness was a Principal Technical Officer 1 Electrical, with Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Works and member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
She was also a pioneer member of the Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter and served as Treasurer for 8 years and later, National Financial Secretary for two terms.
Director, Geo – Technical, Quality Control and Material Testing, Elder Nseobong Edem, on behalf of the management and staff of the Ministry of Works, Akwa Ibom State, in his condolence to the bereaved family, commiserated with the husband over the painful loss.
Mr Edem, who described the late colleague as a diligent and committed staff said, the vacuum created by her death was a deficit to both the Ministry and family but, prayed God to grant her soul repose and fortitude to the family to bear the irreparable loss.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ikono Chapter Chairman, Chief (Barrister) Moses Akpan and his Ikot Ekpene counterpart, Moses Ndiok both eulogised the deceased as a faithful wife, describing her demise as a great loss.
South-South Vice President, Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering, led by Engr. Dominic Udoetan, management staff of Abak Local Government Council led by Hon. James Mathew and members of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) led by the Chair-person, Comrade Ekaete Nkanta spoke glowingly of the life and times of late Engr. Roseline Ofum.
Engr. Roseline was educated at Primary School, Udune – Une in Oron Local Government Area of the State, before proceeding to Immaculate Conception Secondary School, Itak in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom to obtain her School Certificate.
Late Engr. Roseline attended the Polytechnic, Calabar, Cross River State where she bagged HND in Electrical Electronics Engineering Technology (Power/Machine) in 1998 and later served in Imo State for her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1999.
Before joining the State’s Ministry of Works to practice her profession, Roseline taught at Ndikpo Grammar School, Ikot Obio Nko in Ibesikpo – Asutan Local Government Area under the State Secondary Education Board.
She was a dedicated and hardworking staff of the Ministry of Works, where she supervised the ongoing Uyo – Etinan road construction and the Fly – Over project at Nung Oku Ikono Junction before her death.
Late Engr, (Mrs) Roseline a. k. a. (Mma Eyen), was survived by a daughter, husband, brothers and Sisters and many relations.
According to her husband, Engr. Sylvanus Ofum, she was a devout Christian, a member of St. Catherine Society and the Catholic Women Organization (CWO). He noted that, his late wife would be remembered for her wise counsels and the noble roles she played in the family, the Church and for humanity in general and prayed the Almighty God to grant her peaceful rest.
The funeral Mass was jointly conducted by the Parish Priest, St. John’s Catholic Church, 72 Abak Road, Uyo, Friar Nicolas Oshomah, Friar John-Kennedy Anyanwu, Friar Ignatius Okoye, Rev. Fr. Anietie Udoh of St. Hilary Parish, Itu and other Priests and Religious leaders.
