Abia State govt disbands Ariaria Market Committee

The Abia State Government has announced the dissolution of the Committee on the Review and Revalidation of Ariaria International Market led by Mr. Chigozie Osuala.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Godwin Adindu, Thursday, said that the disbandment is with immediate effect.
“The committee is directed to hand over all documents, assets and property of government and that of the Ariaria Market in their custody to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment,” the statement said.
“All construction works authorized and executed by the committee in the market are also hereby invalidated.
“Government will take immediate steps to upgrade the Ariaria Market and reform it to its original master plan which includes spaces for banking, fire service, car park, police station and other essential services,” Adindu further said.
The government said that a new directive towards actualising its plan of action will be made available to the public in due course, pointing out that the upgrading of the market is part of its “large-scale plan of a comprehensive infrastructural renewal of the commercial city of Aba which has begun with massive road construction and the desilting of drainages, gutters, storm water systems and flood channels in the city.”
