In a move aimed at boosting commuter movement within and around the Lagos metropolis, transport service company, Metro-Serve Bus Limited, operators of Metrobus, has added fifty new buses to its existing fleet in the state.
With the commissioning of the buses, the company now has 150 buses in its fleet, covering nine routes from the initial three with which it began operations three months ago.
The addition of the buses is coming at a time the company is increasing its routes from the initial three to eighty. The old routes it currently covers include Ikorodu–Obalende/TBS, Berger– Obalende TBS, Old Tollgate–TBS while the new ones are Oshodi – Obalende/TBS, Toll-Gate – Oshodi, Toll-Gate – Obalende/TBS, Dopemu – Broad Street and Iyana Ipaja – Broad Street.
It would be recalled that Metrobus started operations late in the second quarter of this year following the commissioning of the first 100 of its 43-seater, air-conditioned bus fleet, February 17, 2015 at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Yard, Oshodi.
Metrobus is a product of a public-private partnership driven development initiative and the relentless efforts of the State Government in building an efficient inter-modal transport system that would serve the transportation needs of the indigenes and residents.
The Lagos state government is committed to its goal of building a private sector-driven reliable and sustainable multi-modal transport system that would enhance standard of living and improve economic activities while also creating a success template for other states in the country.
Commenting on the additions, Niyi Oguntoyinbo, group CEO of Philly and Mools, the parent company of Metro-Serve Bus Limited, expressed delight with the steps taken by the company towards ensuring it meets a fleet target of 1800 buses, serving a total of 47 routes across the state.
“This is the first step towards increasing our fleet size to 1800 buses in 47 routes across the state and it is safe to say we are on track since we started operations in May this year.
