Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has charged the newly sworn-in local government caretaker committee chairmen to focus on the improvement of security and enhancement of environmental sanitation.

He spoke, Monday, at the Government House, Port Harcourt while swearing in 20 Local Government Council Caretaker Committee Chairmen.

In a statement signed by Simeon Nwakaudu, his Special Assistant (Media),  Governor Wike declared that he will sack any caretaker committee chairman who fails to improve security and enhance environmental sanitation.

“The caretaker chairmen have two basic functions; security and environmental sanitation. You are not expected to embark on construction work within these three months, improve security in your localities,” Wike said.

The governor said that the caretaker committee chairmen of Degema, Asari Toru and Akuku Toru were not re-appointed because of the heightened insecurity in their local government areas.

The governor noted that his administration will not tolerate any form of corruption in the management of the local government resources, adding that any caretaker committee chairman involved in corrupt practices will be sanctioned.

The governor stated that erring chairmen will not be saved by political godfathers, pointing out that only the interest of the state is paramount.
