Achebe Day 2024 program holds online, Monday, June17 (See log in details below)

Renowned multiple award winning writer, late Professor Chinua Achebe will, again, be honored on the 66th anniversary of the publication of the trailblazing, iconic novel, Things Fall Apart.

The masterpiece was published by William Heinemann on June 17, 1958 and has remained evergreen and in continuing high demand till date. Over 80 million copies of the trend setting book has been sold worldwide while it has been translated into 50 languages.

In celebration of the monumental stature of the book and its author, Prince George (PG) County, Maryland, United States of America (USA) Executive, Angela Alsobrooks, in 2023, issued a proclamation to recognize every June 17th as Achebe Day, following a declaration by World Ebony Network (WEN) in 2020.

On Monday, June 17, 2024, the World Ebony Network Ethnic Folklore Festival (WENEFF), will host a program to commemorate the Achebe Day with the theme: “Tell Your Own Story.”

The virtual program, which will start at 4:00PM (EST), is expected to give participants the opportunity to tell their own stories, especially in relation to what is going on in different parts of the world, with particular emphasis on some African countries.

According to WEN, organizers of the event, “Achebe Day reinforces our organization’s motto of advancing ethnic equity and equality, which promotes what we believe to be one of Prof Achebe’s core legacies: ‘Telling Your Own Story.'”
