Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has hailed the arrival of the 45,000km submarine fibre optic cable, 2Africa, which links the state with Europe, Asia, and other parts of Africa via the Atlantic Ocean. The governor described the project as a significant milestone that will propel the state into the forefront of ICT innovation, bringing economic and technological benefits to the region and beyond.
During a ceremony to receive the 2Africa submarine fibre optic cable from MainOne Company at Qua Iboe beach in Ibeno Local Government Area, Governor Eno expressed gratitude for the initiative. He pledged full support for the project, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to fostering technological advancements and entrepreneurial growth.
“We celebrate this remarkable effort that will position Akwa Ibom State as a hub for ICT innovation and drive economic prosperity,” Governor Eno stated. “We are ready to collaborate with creative entrepreneurship projects and provide the necessary assistance for their success.”
Highlighting the significance of the submarine cable for the state’s technology agenda, Governor Eno urged youths to capitalize on the infrastructure to explore opportunities in information and communication technology (ICT). He underscored the potential of the high-speed broadband infrastructure to empower youths and stimulate economic growth.
“The ICT sector holds strategic importance in our state’s development agenda,” Governor Eno emphasized. “Technology is pivotal to realizing the objectives of our ARISE Agenda, and we are committed to leveraging this infrastructure for the benefit of our youth and the entire state.”
Furthermore, Governor Eno assured MainOne Company of unwavering support, promising to facilitate their operations in the state’s waterways. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to creating an enabling environment for tech-driven initiatives, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable development across Akwa Ibom State.
