Governor Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Some officials of the Sokoto State Government were also present during the visit.
In a statement released after the meeting, Ekeoma said the governor encouraged Kanu to remain strong, explaining that talks and engagements started over two years ago had been intensified. According to him, Otti expressed confidence that the matter would soon be resolved through administrative channels, giving hope that Kanu may regain his freedom in the near future.
The governor also told Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto had shown support for a peaceful resolution. He added with humour that the Sultan had jokingly said Kanu was now his “subject” and could be turbaned, a remark that made Kanu laugh.
Kanu, who was said to be in high spirits throughout the visit, thanked the governor for coming. He also expressed pride in the progress being made in Abia State and encouraged Otti to continue delivering good governance for the benefit of the people. He ended by praying for the governor and his team.
