The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winners of Saturday’s Borno Central Senatorial bye election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While announcing the results, the returning officer for the election, Professor Muhammmed Fannami, declared APC’s candidate, Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai, winner having scored the majority of votes cast.
APC’s candidate, Garbai scored 126,639 which constitute 75 percent of the total votes cast in a landslide victory compared to his PDP counterpart of the PDP, Engineer Kaka Bolori who polled 32,346 to have 20 percent of the total votes cast.
According to the INEC APC polled 120,639 votes; PDP 32,346 votes; Kowa Party got 1,042; APGA got 334; PPA 136; PPN 79 and SDP polled 660 votes.
Candidate of the PDP, Kaka Bolori, however, rejected the result as he alleged massive rigging by the ruling APC.
But APC’s Garbai said his victory was a manifestation of the people’s trust in him and his party.
The Senator elect said “the people of Borno Central have spoken that I am their Senator. It is a clear testimony of the fact that they have confidence in my ability to represent them. They have also appreciated the efforts of the governor of Borno state who has steered the affairs of this state and touched lives of our people positively. I thank them for the support and the trust they have for our party the APC.”
