By Ankeli Emmanuel, Sokoto

In their continuing efforts to clear terrorists from every part of the 8 Division’s operational areas, troops of Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Friday neutralized scores of terrorists, recovered AK-47 rifles and 3 motorcycles during an operation in Maikujera village, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The troops, acting on credible intelligence that terrorists in their numbers with hundreds of rustled cattle were moving towards the Maikujera village, swiftly moved to intercept them but were met with an ambush.

Displaying gallantry, the troops responded decisively, leading to the killing of scores of the terrorists while others fled abandoning the cattle.

While conducting follow up search of the area, troops recovered AK-47 rifles and 3 motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The military engagement forced the rustled cattle to disperse on their own. But the troops, alongside local vigilantes were, as at press time, still combing the general area to help locate and recover the wandering livestock.

Confirming the incident, the 8 Division Army Acting Public Relations Officer, Lt. Col. Osoba Olaniyi described the encounter as a huge success for the Nigerian Army and a great loss on the part of the enemies of the country. He also assured that further details will be given in due course.

Praising the swift response of the troops, a local from Rabah local government, Isah Abdullahi, said they are very pleased with the urgent intervention of the security agencies.

He, however, appealed to locals to always provide timely and credible information to security agencies, adding that doing so will help reverse the ugly situation.
