The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is appreciating the generous commitment to scholarship by corporate organizations, which contributed to the successful hosting of its 10th Commencement, on May 19. In a letter of appreciation, AUN’s management applauded the host of valued friends and partners who donated academic excellence and other awards to top performing graduates of Africa’s first Development University.

AUN said in a statement that it was particularly thankful “for their magnanimity in contributing to our scholarship funds through awards sponsorship.” The statement listed the award donors as Leadway Assurance Company Limited; Royal Exchange Healthcare Limited; Adama Beverages (FARO) Limited; Globacom Limited; and Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers.

Other corporate organizations recognized include Standard Microfinance Bank; Yaliam Press Limited; Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited; Madugu Group of Companies; Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; and Sigma Pensions Limited. The appreciation letter also included Mr. Haruna Musa; AIICO Pension Managers Limited, and CWG Plc.

The corporate-sponsored awards fell into two categories–academic excellence (for scores of CGPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and above) and community service. Deserving graduates received more than 50 awards–both university and corporate-sponsored.

Vice President for University Relations, Mr. Abubakar Abba Tahir, who formally unveiled the external sponsors, said AUN would remain grateful to the donors for their support, in cash and in-kind, toward the vision and mission of AUN.

“It was thrilling to know we have valued friends and partners in these sponsors who responded positively to our request and it cannot be better demonstrated the confidence they have in AUN as trainers of graduates whose focus is on exploring the many options and opportunities around them.”

VP Tahir added that the sponsorships further demonstrates the organizations’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as well as increased buy-in of the corporate world with AUN as a university committed to entrepreneurship and development.
