NEDU MARK
Former state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Elder Sam Inokogba, has died, Tuesday night, in Lagos.
Chief Inokogba who reportedly slumped and died, had recently defected to the APC along with hundreds of his supporters, after series of loggerheads with the state Governor Seriake Dickson, leading to his subsequent suspension from the party.
The APC chieftain’s sudden death sent a shock to residents of Bayelsa communities as it was being discussed in hush tones among members of the APC.
Local radio stations in Yenagoa, had reported Inokogba’s death on Wednesday morning as breaking news.
Before his death, Inokoba was said to have picked his governorship form two days ago to contest the forthcoming election on the platform of the APC.
A source confirmed that immediately he got his form, he went to Lagos for “crucial meeting with some APC politicians” on the need for him (Inokogba) to shelve his ambition as an aspirant from their local government.
It will be recalled that a week ago the same Inokoba was reported to have slumped at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Nembe.
The report was denied by Inokoba and his political associates. In the report, Inokoba was said to be receiving regular financial support from the Bayelsa State Government to facilitate his frequent medical trips abroad.
