Ahead of the 2016 governorship elections in Bayelsa state, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has described the incumbent Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, as a visionary leader and urged Bayelsans to re-elect him.
Jonathan said the state is in dire need of a good leader that would propel development and not a leader that would breed violence.
The former President who was accompanied by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Acting National Chairman, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Chairman, PDP governors Forum, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko at the presentation of party flag to Seriake Dickson in Yenagoa said 99 per cent of Bayelsans are from poor families and insisted that Dickson has the political vision to lead the state.
Dickson, Jonathan said, is doing well and has approached development in the right way over the past three years in office, stressing that the governor has built bridges, roads, hospitals and schools in the state adding that what Dickson had done are signs of more developments to come.
“Don’t listen to them when they come campaigning, but assess them by their past. Bayelsans, think about your future and your children and grand children, not just about what you stand now to gain or to swallow.”
“Governor Dickson wants peace, enterprises, development and not violence like the opposition party in the state,” he said.
Jonathan pointed out that Governor Dickson as a candidate is seeing Bayelsa state beyond today, but into the future
“I have looked at Dickson’s projects. I am convinced that he is a visionary leader. You should vote for the future of your children; vote for peace and vote for development and not injustice.
Earlier, Governor Seriake Dickson said Bayelsans have rejected the APC governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva as a candidate in the forthcoming poll.
He also accused Sylva of promoting criminalities and violence in the state just as he accused the federal government of intimidating the electorates with the heavy deployment of security agents to monitor the conduct of the election.
Dickson also boasted that APC cannot win any ward in the state, as there is no vacancy in the creek haven. “The APC candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva is not electable and cannot win one ward. PDP will defeat APC 90 per cent if we go to the poll today.”
Highlight of the ceremony was the official presentation of the party’s flag to governor Seriake Dickson and his running mate, John Jonah by the national leaders of the party.
