Bayelsa guber poll: INEC declares results in 5 LGAs, PDP leads in 4; APC takes Brass

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the results of the governorship elections in five local government areas of the Bayelsa state.

Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Prof Zana Akpogu said part of the election results would be announced on Monday morning as the results were not ready as at the time of filing this report.

A breakdown of the results so far announced show that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is leading while the All Progressives Congress, has so far won only one local government area.

In Sagbama local government area, PDP scored 28,934 votes, while APC scored 5,382. Sagbama local government Area is the home town of Governor Seriake Dickson.

PDP also won the election in Yenagoa, the state capital with a total of 24,258. APC scored 14,563 votes.

Results from Brass local government area shows that Chief Timipre Sylva emerged victorious with 21,755 votes, PDP scored only 6,516 votes.

In Ekeremor local government area, the strong hold of the Minister of Agriculture, Senator, Heineken Lokpobiri, PDP scored 14,602, while APC scored 7,918 votes.

Speaking shortly after the announcement, Director General, Dickson Campaign Organization, Hon Fred Agbade called for the cancellation of results in some wards in Brass local government area.

He also alleged that the acting Chairman of the PDP Chief Serena Dokubo was attacked by armed youths, while some supporters of PDP were butchered in the area.

Agbade also alleged that APC deployed over 50 hired thugs to disrupt the poll at Iwoama, Twon Brass area of the community.
