BAYELSA HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSED 50 BILLS IN FOUR YEARS

The leadership of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, Wednesday said the fourth Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Konbonwei Friday Benson has passed 50 bills into law in the past four years.
The Speaker said during the year under review, over 60 bills were received with two withdrawn. There were 49 executive bills, one private bill and a host of others, he said, noting that in the past years, 40 motions were passed and resolutions forwarded to the executive arm.
Hon. Konbonwei said, “under a friendly atmosphere we set a legislative record that is yet to be broken by any state in the Nigerian federation. The fourth Assembly passed a minimum of 50 bills in four years. This feat is indeed unprecedented in our country’s legislative history.”
He spoke during the valedictory session held at the end of the fourth Assembly which was dissolved at about 1.20 pm on the directives of Governor Dickson according to the constitution.
Motion for the dissolution of the fourth Assembly was moved by the leader of the House, Hon Peter Akpe representing Sagbama constituency 1 and seconded by Mrs Agatha Goma Ekeremor 1, an out going legislator.
Speaking on the floor of the House, the Speaker said “the fourth Assembly has successfully run its full course without any scandals because the House stood firmly on the path of accountability and probity as demonstrated by our policy of broadcasting all our sittings live.”
He thanked all members of the fourth Assembly for their co-operation and contributions towards making the plenary robust, adding that the House enjoyed a robust relationship and mutual respect with the principal officers and a sense of common purpose with all the arms of government.
He lauded Governor Dickson for his sterling leadership qualities and deep understanding of the legislative process which facilitated their task as lawmakers, culminating in the huge success they recorded.
