Mr Mike Okoli, Police Commissioner in Bayelsa on Wednesday said the Police was on the trail of kidnappers of the 80 years old mother of the Secretary to Bayelsa State Government (SSG) with a view to releasing her uninjured.
The Police on Wednesday said it has launched a manhunt for the rescue of Madam Betinah Benson and to arrest her kidnappers.
It would be recalled that the victim was in January 2013 abducted and freed by the Police after one week in the kidnappers’ den.
SP Assinim Butswat, Spokesman of the Police in Bayelsa who confirmed the abduction noted that the Commissioner of Police led a team of detectives to the crime scene.
“Benson, 80, was kidnapped on July 20, 2021, at about 2300 hours at her residence at Old Legislative Quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa. The kidnappers who were dressed in military camouflage stormed the residence and kidnapped the victim to an unknown destination.
“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command CP Mike Okoli fsi, and other detectives have visited the scene. Investigation is in progress,” Butswat said.
