Bayelsa SARS operatives kill notorious armed robber in Opolo
Following the radical strategies adopted by the Bayelsa State Police Command led by its Commissioner, Asuquo Amba to sanitize the state from all forms of crimes and criminalities, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS on Thursday shot dead one notorious armed robbery suspect in Yenagoa.
The suspect, Police said, was killed by the gun power of the squad during an exchange of fire with the gallant officers while attempting to escape.
Described as notorious, the suspect was gunned down will attempting to rob and attack operators of a popular supermarket located along Opolo area of the state.
Although the deceased’s identity was not made public but he was described as the gang leader of the group.
The Anti Robbery Squad also shot another robbery suspect on the leg while trying to escape arrest.
It was gathered that the robber met his waterloo when residents of Opolo alerted the Police and the robbers were given a chase and one was killed while exchanging fire with the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Police said the robbers, before they were shot, fired sporadically at the residents of the area so as to again access to the supermarket but the residents’ resilient effort helped the Police to kill one and apprehend the other.
The Command said locally made pistols popularly called Awka-made were recovered from the hoodlums who are said to be between twenty and twenty two years of age.
Contacted for confirmation, Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP, Asinim Butswat said one robbery suspect was killed by the operatives of SARS, while another was shot on the leg and is assisting the Police with relevant information to arrest others.
The PPRO also said the deceased and the suspect are between the ages of 20 and 22 yrs and appealled to residents of the state to assist the command in community policing so as to curb all forms of criminalities, including cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery across the state.
