Bayelsa United FC return to the NPFL after 7 years in the NNL

 Bayelsa United FC on Saturday, August 26, 2022 defeated Cynosure FC 2-0 to return to the NPFL after a 7-year absence following their relegation from Nigeria’s topflight league in 2016.

The team finished the season with 44 points from 24 matches to edge out Crown FC (42) and Warri Wolves (40) and grab the sole promotion ticket in Group B2 of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League season.

A 0-0 draw against Nnewi United FC at Rojenny Stadium, OBA in week 23 left Bayelsa United Fc on the brink of NPFL return. The Prosperity Boys knew a win in the final game of the season vs Cynosure FC will guarantee them the top spot.

A goal in each half of the game from Timitimi Iniekade and Robert Mizo at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenegoa secured the 2-0 win that ensured their promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League – NPFL.

Bayelsa United FC who are current Champions of the AITEO Cup will join Bendel Insurance, El Kanemi Warriors and Doma United FC as the four promoted teams for the 2022/2023 NPFL season.

In other NNL Group B2 Week 24 results decided on Saturday August 26, Crown FC defeated Nnewi United 3-0 to secure second spot ahead of Warri Wolves who fell to a 1-0 loss against Abia Comets FC.

Go Round FC defeated Sporting Lagos 2-1 in Port Harcourt, while Apex Krane and FC ONE Rockets will go down to the Nationwide League One following a 2-2 draw.
