Rivers United rise to 22nd in CAF five-year club rankings

Nigeria’s Rivers United have climbed to 22nd place in the latest CAF five-year club rankings after reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The rankings were released after the 2025/26 group stage and are based on performances in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup over the last five seasons.

Rivers United have a total of 15 points, reflecting their steady participation and progress in continental competitions. Their ranking places them among the top 25 clubs in Africa.

Egypt’s Al Ahly remain top of the standings with 66 points, continuing their strong record in African football. South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are second with 58 points, while Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis are third on 53 points.

Morocco’s RS Berkane are fourth with 52 points, and Egypt’s Pyramids FC complete the top five with 48 points.

Sudan’s Al Hilal and Egypt’s Zamalek are level on 39 points, just ahead of Tanzania’s Simba on 38 points. Algeria’s USM Alger and Tanzania’s Young Africans complete the top 10.

Other notable clubs on the list include Morocco’s Wydad AC and AS FAR, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, DR Congo’s TP Mazembe, and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.

CAF’s five-year ranking system is important for determining seedings and continental places for African clubs in future competitions.
