The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has promoted 50 of its gallant officers for their commitment to the fight against insurgency in Borno State, in a move geared towards boosting the morale of its officers and men.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar who was in Maiduguri to decorate the officers said “this exercise would have been done by the Commander 79 Composite Group but my presence in Maiduguri is to boost the morale of our men and officers in the theatre of war against insurgency.”

He said the military is determined to end the insurgency within the stipulated time given to them by President Muhammdu Buhari, as the Nigerian Air Force has conducted over 1,488 sorties in support of ground troops, adding that the Nigerian Air Force has degraded the capacity of the Boko Haram terrorists significantly.

“We are doing everything possible to see that communities are liberated and the IDPs not only return to their communities but sleep and do not think that enemies will visit their communities and terrorize them again,” he said.

The Chief of Air Staff assured officers and men of the 79 Composite Group, that “those who work hard will surely be rewarded by being promoted” and assured those who were yet to get their promotions that they will get it in due course.

He also assured them that their welfare in terms of accommodation, promotion and allowances will be taken care of, stressing that those who have not gotten their new uniforms “will soon get them, as their consignment will soon arrive Lagos.”

Air Marshal Abubakar said currently air strikes are still going on, especially in Bama, Gwoza, Ngala and the Sambisa forest to dislodge the terrorists from where they are hiding.
