Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Wednesday inaugurated the Bado-Kasarawa Water Supply Project under the 3rd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project (3rd NUWSRP) in Sokoto.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is part of the commitments signed between the Sokoto State Government and the Minister of Water Resources on collaboration for the implementation of the World Bank Assisted Project.

In his address, Tambuwal said that water supply is cardinal to the overall development drive of his administration in Sokoto State.

He said “This is considering that the availability of and access to clean, drinking water is pivotal to all the facets of life of the people. Efficient water supply is also a major prerequisite for industrial and economic development.

“It is in line with this realisation that our administration has been making deliberate efforts to ensure the availability of adequate potable water to the people, as a top priority over the past six years.

“Our commitment to water supply is demonstrated in our annual budgetary allocation of sufficient finds for the water supply sector in both rural and urban areas.

“Moreover, our commitment with the minister of water resources is aimed to assist the state increase access to sustainable water supply service delivery and improve the financial viability of the existing water utilities”.

The governor added that the commitment would also develop the water supply masterplan and investment plan and capacity building of the state.

Tambuwal urged the beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper utilisation and protection against misuse or vandalisation.

He expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the World Bank for their contributions to the initiative.

He commended the state ministry of water resources for its commitment to all water projects in the state.

Earlier. the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Umaru Bature, listed the benefiting communities to include Bado Housing estate, Bado Hanya, Badon Eka, Badon Barade and Kasarawa village all in Wamakko LGA.
