Skambo Morisson, the chairman, Kaduna State basketball association, on Monday said the Federal Ministry of Sports and the Basketball Federation needed to do the right things that would enhance the development of the game in the country.

He said that they came for the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) athletes and technical representative election but “we were shocked to see that nothing was happening.

“We came for the election and we are expecting like what we saw in other Federations already having their own athletes and coaches representatives’ elections. We just discovered that there were no places prepared for us.

“We went to the secretariat and were told that some issues have to be settled, especially the rules of using guidelines in the constitution.

“But we are still wondering why they gave us a date for the election for today and the election is not holding.”

He said that what they need to do to get the right things done, would start from the use of a constitution that has been endorsed by Nigerian stakeholders of basketball and approved by FIBA.

“This is what we want – either we have the right constitution or I don’t think there is any election that will be conducted that will be very credible here again.

“I think the ministry should do the right thing. They are the ones in between the Federation and the people and the stakeholders.

“They control the sports, we don’t have the Federation and it’s been dissolved and there is nothing called Basketball Federation now,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NBBF athletes and technical representative election was cancelled at the package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The new date for the election is not yet known.
