Arsenal have reached the UEFA Champions League final for the second time in their history after beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate in the semi-final clash.
A crucial first-half strike from Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal a 1-0 victory in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening, sealing their passage to the final.
The Premier League side will now take on either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in the final set to be played at the Puskás Aréna on May 30.
It will be Arsenal’s first appearance in the Champions League final since 2006, when they lost to FC Barcelona in Paris.
Since returning to Europe’s top club competition after a six-year absence, Arsenal have shown steady progress under manager Mikel Arteta. They made the quarter-finals in the 2023/24 campaign before being knocked out in the semi-finals last season by eventual winners PSG.
Arsenal have enjoyed an outstanding run in this year’s competition. The Gunners became the first club to win all eight matches during the league phase before eliminating Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting CP in the knockout stages.
Their victory over Atletico Madrid also stretched Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the European Cup and Champions League to 14 matches, the longest in the club’s history.
The North London side will now aim to win the Champions League trophy for the first time when they compete in the final later this month.
