Chicago police: 2 boys killed after apparent homicide-suicide attempt

Chicago, Jan. 2, 2020

Two boys, aged about 1 and 2, were killed following an apparent homicide-suicide attempt in Chicago’s South Shore neighbourhood on Thursday, police said.
Also a 70-year-old man and a woman in her 30s were in critical condition following the incident.
Officers were called to a building to investigate a “person down,” and first found a woman in her 30s and her son, about 1 year-old, on the ground.
A security worker at the apartment building then took officers to the 11th floor. Inside an apartment they found the man with cuts to his face and body.
They also located another boy, about 2 years-old, unresponsive in a bathtub. Police News Affairs didn’t immediately have information on whether the woman was the older child’s mother.
The man said his adult daughter “began stabbing him and then jumped from the 11th floor with her 1-year-old-son,” according to police.
Both boys were pronounced dead at Comer Children’s Hospital, officials said.
The woman survived the fall and she and the man both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Centre, where they were listed in critical condition.
