AGF visits COAS Buratai, assures Treasury office’s support to army’s war against insurgency

The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, has praised the Nigerian Army for successes recorded in the current fight against insurgency in the north-east, just as he assured the continued support of the Treasury office to programmes of the Army.
Idris made these remarks, Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Major Gen. Tukur Burutai at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Idris was at the Army Headquarters to commend the COAS for fulfilling his promise of constructing and rehabilitating car parks and ports, as well as landscaping the parking areas at the Office of Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) during Buratai’s courtesy visit last year.
It will be recalled that the COAS made the pledge as part of the army’s corporate social responsibility to the OAGF.
Idris extolled the sterling leadership qualities of the Chief of Army Staff which has seen the Army achieve so much within his short tenure in office, describing Buratai as a man of action ‘who is not given to many words but a man whose accomplishments speak for him.’
Describing the partnership between the Treasury House and the Nigerian Army as ‘a very unique one’, Idris explained that the OAGF has been tacitly collaborating with the Nigerian Army by ensuring that duly allocated funds are promptly released, adding ‘that this has helped the soldiers remain in high spirit to win the war against insurgency.’
While pledging the continued support of the OAGF to the Nigerian Army, Idris called for more support from the Army to enable the OAGF meet with numerous challenges facing it, especially in the area of Infrastructure at the Treasury Academy in Orozo, as well as capacity building of staff to meet with the demands of modern public financial management.
Responding, Brutai thanked the Accountant General and his team for the visit, just as he expressed satisfaction with the prompt and timely release of funds by the OAGF, adding: “The army has had the best of times with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in the recent times”.
General Burutai commended Idris on the implementation of the Treasury Single Account, saying that the situation ‘has since improved after the initial teething problems,’ while also expressing appreciation to the Accountant General for creating special accounts for the army’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and other special needs of the soldiers.
