An Enugu High Court presided over by Justice R. O. Odugu has nullified the impeachment of then former Deputy Governor of Enugu state, Sunday Onyebuchi, who was accused of gross misconduct by the 5th state assembly.
The court, in the judgement, Friday, that lasted for over an hour, also ordered the restoration of all the rights and benefits of the former deputy governor from the time of his removal up to May 29, 2015 when the his tenure constitutionally elapsed.
In a swift reaction, Onyebuchi who was in court with his wife, Nneka expressed appreciation to the judiciary for once again dispensing jusyice without fear or favour, noting that he had been vindicated by the judgment, while declaring that he had ling forgiven his adversaries.
It could be recalled that Onyebuchi was impeached on August 26, last year by the immediate past State House of Assembly led by Speaker Eugene Odoh following the recommendation of the seven-man impeachment panel set up by the state Chief Judge, Justice Innocent Umezulike, which investigated allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by then Governor Sullivan Chime.
His impeachment from office led to the appointment of Rev Ifeanyi Nwoye, who served as deputy governor from August last year to May 29, this year.
