Acting Chairman of the Gombe State Taskforce on Covid-19, Engineer Saleh Mohammed, has stated that the multimillion naira isolation center for persons infected with severe cases of corona virus known also as COVID-19 is now ready for use for any suspected case in the State.
Engineer Saleh Mohammed, who is also the Mai Kaltungo, the Paramount ruler in Kaltungo Chiefdom, stated this during a press briefing on the activities of the committee in the State.
Gombe State has not recorded any case of an infected person with the corona virus since it was discovered in Nigeria and particularly in neighbouring Bauchi State few weeks back.
Though the committee had been tracking and had followed some suspected persons whose results have shown that they are negative, Engineer Saleh said, 16 samples had already been taken for tests and all results are negative. However, one sample was just taken for test and the result is being awaited.
Health Commissioner in the State Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Gana had earlier told journalists that the State Government was putting in place all machinery to curtail the spread of the virus should it find its way into the State.
He said, a cottage hospital in Kwadon, an outskirts of Gombe town as well as General Hospitals Bajoga and Kaltungo, have all been designated to treat mild and moderate cases of the corona virus while a severe case would be taken to the isolation centre located in the State Specialist Hospital Gombe, where it is now ready for use.
According to the Mai Kaltungo, during his briefing, apart from the readiness of the isolation centre, all health workers have also been provided with hand sanitizers, gloves, masks and other protective apparatus for their use should there be any reported case in the State.
He said an intensive training of health workers on what to do and how to do it had already begun in the State.
He explained that more officials had been deployed to markets, motor parks among many other places to continue with the sensitization of the public about the corona virus after the committee had gone round all the palaces of Emirs and Chiefs in the State for the same mission.
