The Cross River Police Command has said that all officers and men of the command including those in the offices would be deployed for the 2023 general elections in the state.
The state Police Commissioner, CP Sule Balarabe made this known while speaking with journalists in Calabar, Cross River capital, Thursday.
“Talking about the election, all policemen in the state, including those serving in offices will be deployed on election duty,” the police boss noted.
He expressed happiness that a new set of police personnel have just passed out from the Police Training School in Odukpani local government area, adding that those posted to the state command would also be deployed for election duties.
“I am happy that a new batch of personnel have just graduated from the Police Training School in Odukpani local government area of the state. Those assigned to the state will all be deployed for the elections,” he said.
CP Balarabe also stated that, its officers and men would undergo retraining in arms handling to prevent mishaps during the General Elections
He explained that the retraining became necessary to avoid a repeat of the Lagos incident, where a policeman was reported to have mistakenly shot a female lawyer.
“Many of our men have forgotten the basic handling of firearms, sometimes they become unconscious that they have cocked the firearms.
“The retraining of our men in Cross River in arms handling will help to avert such accidental discharges especially as we get close to the general election period,” the Police Commissioner said.
