Date for evacuation of Nigerians from America now Saturday, May 9, 2020

The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, United States of America, has announced a change in the aircraft and departure date for the country’s nationals being evacuated from the US.
An ‘Urgent Public Notice ‘ by the Consulate on behalf of the Nigerian Missions in the US said that by the new arrangement, the evacuees would now depart Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey on Saturday, May 9, 2020 instead of the earlier announced Sunday, May 10, 2020.
Arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja would now be on Sunday, May 10,2020 at
11.15 hours.
Also, rather than the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 509, which was earlier scheduled to fly the evacuees to Nigeria, another jet, Ethiopian Airlines No. ET 8509, a Boeing 787, would undertake the trip.
The Consulate urged those who had not booked the flight and who want to travel to do so immediately as the aircraft would still be able to accommodate only 270 passengers out of the more than 700 persons that have indicated interest in the journey back to Nigeria.
