The opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in Gombe State has described the last two years Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a disaster.
In a conference telephone interview with correspondents in Gombe, a stalwart of the APC in the State and a Governorship hopeful, Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu Kashere said, the people of Gombe State, especially the down trodden masses have nothing to celebrate but their regrets and poor living conditions.
He said the last two years have been very full of regrets for the people of Gombe state adding, “Sincerely speaking, there has been no physical or human development. But I think he tried his best during his first term but nothing in the past two years”.
He continued that “is there any project that has been completed? Some states are commissioning projects but none in Gombe state nor the Local Governments. Gombe is a very small State and everybody knows everybody. I challenge anybody to come out and show me any project that was built and commissioned in the last two years”.
He also accused the Governor of absenteeism, especially in the last nine weeks when nothing has been happening and nobody knows the Governor’s whereabouts nor has anyone said anything. This, he said, has left the state run down .
He said even the Education sector that the Government says is its first, second and third priorities has been comatose, considering what Students in tertiary institutions are facing.
According to him, “the education sector is suffering like any other sector and I don’t think the students are enjoying the scholarship that they used to enjoy, I don’t think the students have enjoyed any allowance in the last two years in Gombe State and this is no propaganda or being opposition for the sake of it. I don’t think the Government is concerned about the students of Gombe state, from primary to tertiary school level”.
“If what I am saying is wrong, I challenge anybody to come out and fault me, I am saying this because I am part and parcel of the students’ union, I always talk with them and know most of their problems”, he said.
Several efforts made by newsmen to get the response of the State Government through the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Umar Ahmed Suleiman proved abortive as phone calls to his lines were not answered nor were several text messages sent to his telephone number replied.
