A socio-political group under the aegis of the League of Edo Professionals, Saturday, urged President Mohammadu Buhari to respect citizens’ fundamental human rights ‎in his quest to rid the country of corruption.

The group’s spokesman, Mr Imevbore Legogie,‎ who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin, Edo State, also urged the president to call the security agencies to order in the discharge of their duties.

The group while reacting to the continued detention of the chairman emeritus, DAAR communications,Dr Raymond Dokpesi, noted that his continual detention was a violation of his fundamental rights.

They noted that as much as the current anti-corruption crusade of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government may be desirous, it should not be at the expense of citizens’ fundamental liberty and human rights.

They say the continued detention of Dokpesi and his likes who are frontline opposition party members is capable of sending the signal that the president was on a vendetta.

They however reminded president that Nigerians voted for change and not “MILITROCRACY.”

Thus reminding the president that current drive is ‘pushing the nation towards a one-party state which would kill the nation’s democracy if care is not taken.’

They then called for the immediate release of the detained Dokpesi.

‎It would be recalled that Dokpesi was arrested on Tuesday, December 1, for allegedly being a part of the arms purchase scandal involving the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Dokpesi was arrested, quizzed and currently being detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged, N2.1bn he purportedly received from the office of the NSA.

The Edo State-born businessman, however admitted receiving same amount which he said was meant for the publicity and campaign documentaries he carried out for the former President, Goodluck Jonathan.
