The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, has announced the deployment of 500 personnel and 300 special marshalls for the Easter celebrations.

Ezeoma, disclosed this on Wednesday in a press statement, signed by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Mr. Jude Igbonekwu, and made available to newsmen in Umuahia.

She said that this special initiative forms part of FRSC’s resolve to ensure road safety during the upcoming celebration and emphasised the need for discipline among motorists and road users.

Ezeoma also said that the festive period usually witnessed a surge in vehicular and human traffic, which increases the risk of road crashes.

She urged drivers to avoid reckless behaviors such as speeding, drunk driving, overloading, and the use of mobile phones while driving.

“This period is often characterised by increased movement of people and vehicles, which can heighten the risk of road traffic crashes.

“We are therefore appealing to drivers to avoid behaviors that endanger lives,” Ezeoma said.

According to her, patrol teams and logistics have been strategically positioned across major highways and identified black spots in the state to assist commuters and enforce traffic regulations.

The Sector Commander said that the operation aims to reduce accidents and ensure smooth vehicular movement throughout the Easter holiday.

She also announced the activation of mobile courts across key locations to enable the swift prosecution of traffic offenders and discourage violations.

Ezeoma urged transport unions, religious organisations, and community leaders to join hands with FRSC in promoting road safety awareness among their members.

She called on the members of the public to reflect on the true essence of the season, emphasising the values of love, sacrifice, and hope.

Ezeoma also prayed that the celebration would usher in peace across homes and safety on the roads, encouraging all to embrace the spirit of Easter in their daily lives.

She urged the public to report emergencies through the FRSC toll-free line 122 or through the Abia Sector Command’s dedicated lines: 09139600903 and 09139602957.
