
15 Nigerians including a road safety official were killed in road accidents during last year’s yuletide celebrations in Edo state compared with 12 who died in the year 2014, according to the Federal road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The Edo state Sector Commander of the Commission, Mr Familani Oagoke who gave this information in Benin City said 12 people died in 2014.
He blamed impatience on the part of road users for the up to 26 road crashes-four less than that for 2014- and said these were more inside Benin City than on the Highways, during the period.
He said, “We recorded 15 deaths as against 22 deaths last year. Whereas the number of cases reduced the deaths increased”, for the period December 18 2015 to January 3 2016.
The FRSC Official added that in the New Year the Commission plans to collaborate with other sister agencies to enlighten road users on their roles in preventing road crashes especially inside the state capital.
“Motorists should careful within the town. They should observe road signs and Park properly in case they want to drop passengers”.
He said the Commission’s towing vans would be deployed in the process to help rid major roads of poorly parked vehicles to make driving safe and pleasurable in 2016.
