The All Progressives Congress (APC) felicitates with all Muslims in the country on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, wishing them successful, joyous and peaceful celebrations.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in its message, urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for abiding peace and unity in the country.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the APC said since sacrifice lies at the core of Eid-el-Kabir, it is also pertinent to commend all Nigerians for their sacrifice all through the years for the emergence of a better Nigeria.
“Being the first Eid-el-Kabir to be celebrated since the change train arrived in our country, we thank all our compatriots for their support and personal sacrifices that have seen Nigeria emerging, gradually but steadily, from years of bad governance, impunity, unbridled corruption and neglect of the larger population.
“In particular, we commend our gallant soldiers, many of whom have paid the supreme sacrifice, for continuing to stand up for the unity and cohesion of our dear country. We assure them of our unqualified support as they remain in battle, even during thismoment of celebration, to ensure our safety and security and to crush the terrorists who have killed and maimed many innocent citizens,” it said.
APC prayed that just as Allah accepted the sacrifice of Ibrahim when he totally surrendered to the will of God by his willingness to sacrifice his son, the sacrifice of all Nigerians will be accepted in such a way as to make the country a proud member of the comity of nations again, with an economy that grows for the benefit of all, not for a few fat cats, and a country that is so safe and secure that all can live a better life and reach the zenith of their
chosen careers.
“We appeal to all our compatriots to continue to support our President in his daunting task of steering the country towards peace, security and prosperity, and be ready to make even more sacrifice for
a better Nigeria,” the party said
In its goodwill message signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh on Wednesday, the PDP urged the citizens, irrespective of religious persuasions, to use the occasion to reflect on the virtue of faith, service and total submission to the will of the Almighty God. He said the Eid El-Kabir, once again provides Nigerians a great opportunity to resubmit to God and commit the
nation and its leaders in prayers.
“Indeed, the Eid El-Kabir, while teaching great lessons in faith in the Almighty God, also provides us the opportunity to humble ourselves as a people and seek God’s intervention for our dear country.
“We must therefore seize this divine doorway and collectively pray for our leaders to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to divide the nation, create tension and threaten our bond as one people under God, who, in His infinite wisdom destined Nigeria, a united
and prosperous nation, where the welfare, freedom and happiness of all citizens are guaranteed”.
The party also urged the citizens to rededicate themselves to the values that unite, while resisting all vices that seek to weaken their bond of unity as a people.
The PDP urged the APC-led Federal Government to reciprocate by applying itself to purposefully, make haste to chart a course of governance in the economy and other sectors of the polity, and commence the implementation of its campaign promises to the people.
The party reassured that it would remain committed to national interest by providing credible and issue-based opposition while constructively proffering alternatives to the programmes and policies of the APC-led Government, in a manner that would be of benefit to the Nigerian people.
