Emir of Gombe absent as Dankwambo presents staff of office to Emir of Dukku

The Emir of Gombe Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III was conspicuously absent amidst high profile Emirs and Chiefs from the north when the State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo presented a first class staff of office to the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulrashid.

Leading the pack of traditional rulers present was the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Emirs from Bauchi, Plateau, Yobe and several other Royal fathers from different parts of the country.
Though no reason was given for the Emir’s absence, our correspondent gathered that the absence of the Emir of Gombe who is the Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Traditional rulers became the subject of discussion outside the VIP pavilion in one of the biggest ceremonies in the State.
Making the presentation of the Staff of Office to the Emir, Governor Dankwambo described the Emir of Dukku as a highly educated and enlightened Emir who is capable of ensuring the sustenance of the culture and traditional of the people in this complex and globalized world without eroding the core values.
He said Gombe-Abba town in Dukku Emirate has always stood as the cradle of Gombe Emirate which is the reason why the first Governor of the State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu (Late), upgraded Dukku District to an Emirate and presented a staff of office to the first Emir and father of the current Emir, Alhaji Abdulkadir Haruna Rashid in 2001.
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, extolled the virtues of the Emir of Dukku and described him as a worthy and capable Royal father following his track record of experience both academically and traditionally.
He called on him and other traditional rulers to be fair to their subjects irrespective of status and class.
In his acceptance speech, the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Rashid II, described the presentation of the staff of office to him as a demonstration of history, tradition and heritage of his fore Fathers which has been added to the annals of their great ancestors.
He commended Governor Dankwambo for carrying the traditional rulers in the State along, saying, “Your consultation and appointing some of us in various ad-hoc assignments to advance the cause of governance has engaged the traditional institution to the realization that we have to contribute to the development of our subjects and the society in general”.
He added that, ” I therefore will not stop at anything but to do my best. I accept the trust on behalf of all men and women of Dukku Emirate. In the depth of my heart, I am aware that the Staff of office given to me is much more than an honour to me personally and a pride to all indigenes of Dukku and by extension to my family, friends, the distinguished guests and well wishers celebrating with us.
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Haruna Abdulrashid was born on 24th November, 1960 as the third  child to the immediate past Emir, Alhaji Abdulkadir Haruna Rashid, the 16th Lamido Dukku and first Emir of Dukku.
Alhaji Haruna Rashid succeeded his father as the second Emir of Dukku on 4th January, 2013 following the death of his father.
