The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to commence process that will lead to implementation of the 2014 National Conference as a way to restructure Nigeria.

The Emir made the call in his palace, Ilorin, Tuesday, while speaking with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Sulu Gambari, who was a delegate at the conference, said Nigeria needs restructuring.

The Emir was of the view that the report of the national conference should not be thrown away by the Federal Government.

“The report does not have the force of the law yet and it needs to be given because it was the voice of the people that was not imposed on the people,” the Emir added.

He, therefore, advised the President to pass the report in form of a bill to the National Assembly in order to be included in the constitution and law for the good of the nation.

“The law is made for the people and people are not made for law. Nigerian people have gathered for a purpose, the people have spoken through their representatives. So the parliament would have to endorse it for necessary criteria that had been drawn up in the constitution.

“Having done that, it will now be passed as a bill and people of Nigeria can now say they have given unto themselves this piece in the constitution,” the monarch added.

According to him, the constitution presently in operation in the country was given to the people of Nigeria by the military.

“The military only gave us that one to guide and rule us. Men are not supposed to be made for law, but rather, laws are supposed to be made for men. Men should be supreme and the constitution of Nigeria is the ground norm; the highest law in the land,” he said.

Sulu Gambari said since Nigeria was in the period of restructuring, the document gathered during the confab should be looked into as part of documents for restructuring.

“I believe it should not be thrown into dustbin as the experienced professor, Professor Agboola Gambari, has said,” he said.

The Emir of Ilorin also called on the Federal Government to fish out identified sponsors of deadly Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

He expressed the hope that the insurgency would come to an end when the sponsors are identified.

Sulu-Gambari also said that the state was glad to have President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, from the state, assuring that the number three man would perform creditably for the national growth and progress.

The monarch urged journalists to be socially responsible in their news writing at every critical moment and admonished them to protect corporate existence of Nigeria.

According to him, journalists have crucial roles to play in promoting the peace and stability of the country.

The monarch advised them not write anything that will divide the country or its people.

“We should not stop existing as a country, your job should be tailored towards securing peace and harmony in the country, alongside other responsibilities of educating, informing and entertaining people,” the Emir added.

Sulu Gambari added that without peace, journalists cannot function well and prayed to God to continue to give Nigeria peace and put an end to Boko Haram attacks in the country.
