Empowerment: Imo govt proposes scholarship for 18 students

Imo government has proposed to offer scholarship to 18 students in Oguta council area to tertiary level.

Mrs Calista Anene, Senior Special Adviser to Gov.Hope Uzodimma on Humanitarian Services and Social Development disclosed this on Thursday at Assumpta Girl’s High School Oguta while addressing participants of just concluded Pilot Scholarship Test.

She said the prospective beneficiaries were Jambites from Oguta LGA who participated in the scholarship test and were selected from the 21 communities in Oguta council area.

“The governor of Imo State through my office will sponsor 18 students from Oguta up to tertiary level.

“I have purchased JAMB forms for the 18 students who scaled through the scholarship test, this is a way my office will help the 3R agenda of the governor.

“The program is strategically packaged for the 21 secondary schools and autonomous communities in Oguta council area by my office as part of the government’s philanthropic efforts to assist in educational development in the rural communities”, she said.

Hon. Anene noted that despite economic situation in the state, government would sustain the program yearly.

She described education as the best empowerment for Nigerian youths and enjoined them to jettison antisocial activities.

One of the participants Miss Amarachi Dagogo expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the examination and thanked government for the kind gesture.

She said the examination was transparently conducted. “Everything was transparently and fairly done, we are impressed, this is the first of its kind in this LGA.

“God will bless abundantly our beloved Governor, Hope Uzodimma and our Princess, Mrs Calista Anene for remembering intelligent but less privileged students like me” she said.
