Enugu Exco approves domestication of Criminal Justice Administration Act

Enugu State Executive Council has approved the domestication of the administration of the Criminal Justice Act earlier passed by the National Assembly.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele in a press briefing at the end of the council’s 17th meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu.

According to the commissioner, the bill if passed into law by the State House of Assembly will ensure that any person wrongly arrested may sue the police or police officer personally.

Dr. Udeuhele who briefed the press with his Ministry of Water Resource counterpart, Barr. Charles Egumgbe noted that the council has mandated the State Commissioner of Police to send quarterly reports of all police arrests in its register to the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who will keep the manual and electronic data base on information on arrests from the police.

He equally added that the council approved the draft bill for a law to provide for the regulation of outdoor structures for the display of signages, hording and advertisement in the state and has forwarded it to the State House of Assembly for consideration.

He observed that if the bill is passed into law it will serve as revenue generating channel for the state and local governments.

He informed that it would also generate employment and provide a total environmental beauty and harmony and enhance the image of the state.

Commissioner Udeuhele said that in keeping with Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration resolve to provide potable water to the people the Council approved release of the sum of One Hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000) to the State Water Corporation to enable it to carry out repair and maintenance of some broken down facilities at its Enugu and Nsukka water supply schemes.
