Enugu enrols 750 unemployed youths in skill acquisition programme

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, who disclosed this to journalists after the council’s meeting on Wednesday said that the youths to be engaged in the skill acquisition programme will make use of the centres already established and equipped in Udenu, Enugu South and Ezeagu local government areas.

Selected youths would be trained in vocations such as hairdressing, aluminum works, fashion design, among other skills and will receive stipends at the end of the training, he explained.

According to Dr. Udeuhele, the council had also approved the sum of Sixty-nine million, nine hundred and thirty thousand, seven hundred and twenty-four naira, fifty kobo for the immediate procurement and installation of 800 KVA power generator at the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, to solve the problem of power outage at the health facility as well as to enhance its capacity to deliver quality healthcare services of the people.

Equally approved was a Christmas light-up charity project at the Okpara Square, Enugu, between December 12 and January 12, next year.The initiative will create room for corporate bodies and charity organizations to donate items to disadvantaged persons in the spirit of the Yuletide.

In addition, the council approved the engagement of three Senior Advocates of Nigeria comprising G Offordile Okafor, A.J. Offiah and Anthony I. Ani as external solicitors and legal practitioners to handle complex and high profile cases against the government of Enugu State and its ministries, departments and agencies.

The commissioner also disclosed that the sum of two million, three hundred and sixty-seven thousand naira was approved for the revitalization of the Star Printing and Publishing Corporation for the repair, purchase of equipment and relaunch of the state-owned newspaper and another five hundred and twenty thousand, five hundred naira for the subsequent weeks’ production.
