The Enugu state government has warned against abuse of government plate numbers, stressing that those who fail to heed the warning will be handed over to the Security Agencies for appropriate action.
A statement by CSP F.N. Ogarabe, Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Governor of Enugu State said that the attention of the State Government “has been drawn to the illegal use of government plate numbers by former government functionaries both elected and appointed, and other unauthorized persons.”
The statement said that “in view of the security implication of such abuse, the affected persons are advised to return the plate numbers to the Office of the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, on or before 31st January, 2016.”
It said further that those who were assigned government vehicles which became monetized but who are still retaining the official inscriptions or the state government numbers on the vehicles, should equally erase the numbers and replace them with private plate numbers within the same time or face the consequences of default.
